  • Madrid saw Nacho goal disallowed for a foul on Kimmich
  • Bayern then had effort chalked off in stoppage time
  • Ancelotti hits back at Bayern complaints
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Ancelotti's squad found themselves in dire straits after Alphonso Davies netted a spectacular goal in the second half, giving Bayern the lead. However, Real Madrid orchestrated yet another remarkable comeback, with Joselu emerging as the hero by scoring two quick goals in the dying minutes of the game.

The visitors came agonisingly close to pushing the match into extra time when Matthijs de Ligt found the back of the net in the 13th minute of added time. Nevertheless, their hopes were dashed as the goal was disallowed due to a contentious offside decision in the build-up. Despite being a tight call, the linesman did not allow the move to be completed and subsequently raised his flag. The referee responded by blowing the whistle immediately and the Real Madrid players stopped in their tracks as De Ligt rifled a shot into the net with Andriy Lunin also playing to the whistle.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Both De Ligt and his manager Thomas Tuchel were caught fuming after the match over the controversial refereeing call. Ancelotti, however, said that Real Madrid had also been on the receiving end of a questionable officiating decision during the match. Following Davies' goal, Madrid believed they had levelled the score as Nacho redirected Federico Valverde's shot into the net.

The goal was chalked off after a VAR chec,k for a push by Nacho on Kimmich, but Ancelotti felt the Bayern star had gone to ground far too easily.

  • WHAT ANCELOTTI SAID

In his post-match remarks, Ancelotti dismissed Bayern's complaints, stating, "Bayern complained about the offside? Ok, so we complain about the cancelled goal of Nacho… because Kimmich dived”.

    WHAT NEXT FOR REAL MADRID?

Having already been crowned the champions of Spain, Real Madrid have little to play for in the final four La Liga fixtures of the campaign. Hence we can expect Ancelotti to heavily rotate his squad against Granada on Saturday. Nonetheless, the Italian manager could continue to field his best players in the subsequent games to maintain momentum in the lead up to the final against Borussia Dortmund on June 1 at Wembley.
